Cardinals Release Running Back Beanie Wells
1:08PM Wednesday
March 13, 2013

(PHOENIX) -- After four disappointing seasons in the desert, the Arizona Cardinals have decided to cut ties with running back Beanie Wells.

"Just been informed that I'll be released today," Wells tweeted. "Would like to thank the Cardinals organization for (giving) me the chance to live out my Dreams!"

Wells was the team's first-round pick in the 2009 Draft out of Ohio State. Many were high on him coming into the NFL, but he never truly put it all together.

The 24-year-old Wells lone standout season came in 2011 when he ran for 1,074 yards and scored ten touchdowns. Despite the productive year, Wells managed to run for a combined total of only 1,424 yards with 14 touchdowns scored.

In 2012, the Cardinals ranked last in rushing yards per game.

As of now, Ryan Williams would be the team's starting running back.
